I had ankle surgery by Dr. Caponigro at Hudson Crossing yesterday. I can't say enough about this surgery center. The gentleman working the front desk when we walked in was very nice. I wish I had gotten his name, but he was very friendly, and knowledgeable. When I was taken into pre-op, my nurse, Oscar was terrific. He was friendly, and very considerate. He made me feel very comfortable. Then the nurse, Miriam, who took me into the OR Room was also terrific. She helped me onto the operating table, and made sure I was comfortable. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Kleiner was also a very considerate man who explained everything he was going to do. And the nurses who helped me in post-op were also terrific. I'm 65 years old, and i"ve had many surgeries in the past 20 years, and I have to say, my experience at your surgery center yesterday was one of the best I have ever had. Thank you for everything you did for me.
My first time visiting HCSC and I was nervous. When I arrived, a gentleman at the front checked me in and made me feel welcomed. After signing numerous consents, we had a small hiccup with them knowing how to process Care Credit but ultimately, everything was worked out. The clinical team member came out and introduced herself and took me to the back where I changed and was placed on a gurney. Numerous other team members came by, to introduce themselves and ask me some questions (same questions to make sure I gave them all the same answer…”what are we doing for you today”?…at first I was concerned but then I realized that they have what I’m getting done right in front of them and they are reconfirm with me, the patient”) The Docs came by, same questions and then a few minutes later I was walked to the OR. Again a few new faces, a few. We introductions and on the table I go. 3 deep breaths (GA) later, I wake up to apple juice, water, and an apple muffin with a friendly new face welcoming me back. I got dressed, received my instructions, and out I went. Great experience from the start to the end.
My very active toddler had surgery at this Center, the customer/ waiting area is not kid-friendly at all. The surgery was delayed because I didnt follow a rule. They asked us to wait which I was fine with. My child started crying so the receptionist kicked us out of the waiting area because we were disrupting her work and other patients. We were asked to wait put in a climbing- hazzard- room w table, furniture on wheels, drawers, computers...fun! After a while my child got away from me, thru a door w a lock that he figured out how to open and out into the lobby and almost ran into an OPEN, UNMANNED ELEVATOR SHAFT. I still do not know who stopped my child, if I caught up with or if someone else. There is just sheer PANIC in the memory and black. On top of that everyone from security to the people around and workers came on me to mommy shame like I'm not freaking out already... I cannot fathom what they were thinking. The nurses and people inside the place, had more shame to share with me because "if I had followed the rules I wouldnt have had to wait so long." Im not the first person to break a rule and I protected my child by not lying about it. I can't be the first person... they have protocols, they just put us last on the list but they still felt the need to shame, including the doctor and surgeon. What kind of place is this? They could have told me to go home and come back. No one approached to say here is a safer place to wait. I almost left after the elevator, but my kid needed the surgery and if I left I was not coming back. My child was getting surgery under general anesthesia as if that was not stressful enough. I gave 2 stars because the surgery went well and my kid is well but I pray I dont have to set foot into such a place again. God Willing. A little compassion and focus on safety would have helped.
