Professional Statement
Dr. Benke completed his undergraduate education at Tulane University in New Orleans where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Biology. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 2007. Dr. Benke completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at George Washington University in Washington, DC under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Neviaser, one of the premier open shoulder surgeons in the country. There, he was nominated as one of the American Orthopaedic Association’s Emerging Leaders. Dr. Benke went on to complete advanced training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Santa Monica Orthopaedic Group fellowship in Santa Monica, CA. There he acquired advanced techniques in cartilage restoration and transplantation from Dr. Bert Mandelbaum. He was also trained in the latest techniques of hip, shoulder and knee arthroscopy.
He served as a team physician to multiple high school, college and professional teams including the LA Galaxy Major League Soccer team.
Dr. Benke is board certified in orthopedics and specializes in advanced arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, knee and hip, elbow, as well as cartilage restoration. He is the author of multiple articles in peer-reviewed orthopedic journals focusing on these areas and is also adept in orthopedic trauma and joint replacement and reconstruction. Dr. Benke has privileges at HackensackUMC in Hackensack, HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley in Westwood, and HackensackUMC at Mountainside in Montclair.
