Dr. Bauman is a leading orthopedic surgeon in sports and dance medicine who has been recognized annually by Castle Connolly’s Top doctors in America for over 15 years. His primary special interests include sports medicine, arthroscopy, shoulder, knee, foot and ankle surgery. Dr. Bauman serves as the orthopedic consultant to the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, School of American Ballet and the JKO School of American Ballet Theatre and many Tony award winning Broadway shows. He has been an invited lecturer in orthopedic surgery, sports and dance medicine in Asia, Europe and South America and authored many articles and chapters on sports and dance medicine.
Dr. Bauman received his BA and MA from Harvard University in 1977 and his medical degree from Columbia University in 1981. During his training in New York City, Dr. Bauman was appointed Chief Resident for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian (NY-Presbyterian) and remains affiliated with the leading hospitals in New York City where he also maintains his private office practice.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, an active member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, and the International Association of Dance Medicine. He has also been selected by Consumer Research Council’s Top Orthopedic Surgeons in America, US News and World Report’s Top Doctors in the USA, and New York Magazine’s Best Doctors in Orthopedic Surgery since 1997.
